NHS SBS welcomes eight new NHS organisations

NHS Shared Business Services signs nine new NHS organisations
NHS Shared Business Services has announced 9 new contract wins with NHS organisations. The new business, which will provide finance and payroll business process outsourcing (BPO) services, has a combined value of more than €9.26 million (£8.2 million) and will extend services to approximately 15,000 NHS employees.
Capitalising on its momentum from 2008, these new customers join more than 110 existing NHS organisations already using NHS SBS. Working with 25% of all NHS trusts, NHS SBS enables clients to deliver operational efficiencies through improved financial control, leading edge technology and shared best practice.
“We took the decision to move finance and accounting and payroll services to NHS Shared Business Services because we believe it will deliver real long term value to our organisation and support our drive to become World Class Commissioners,” said Andrew Booth, director of finance and performance and deputy chief executive, NHS Derby City.
“NHS Shared Business Services provides an impressive level of information through a range of comprehensive dashboards backed by a robust future proofed IT infrastructure. The Operating Framework recommends shared services as one of the most effective ways to assist in reducing costs and we believe that working in partnership with NHS Shared Business Services will support us in this area.”

NHS SBS FLU PANDEMIC BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING
NHS SBS has a Business Continuity Strategy that undertakes, as far as it is reasonable, to provide and maintain plans and procedures to protect the business, its Clients, the workforce, Steria and the Department of Health from the risk and consequence of an incident at any NHS SBS office.
Additionally, NHS SBS will cooperate in all reasonable and practicable ways to assist its Clients, if an incident at a Client site impacts NHS SBS and the service NHS SBS provides.
A ‘Statement on Pandemic Flu’ is included in the NHS SBS Business Continuity Strategy which says
‘In the event of a Pandemic situation, although NHS SBS staff are not identified as priority 1 or 2 within NHS SBS disaster planning, NHS SBS will work with their Clients to provide continuity of service’.
Pandemic Flu may result in excessive staff absenteeism but a lack of staff is covered in our BCP plans.
NHS SBS have invested in the cross training of staff to minimise the impact of staff absenteeism NHS SBS has policies and procedures in place to allow staff to undertake duties outside their normal remit Where appropriate staff are able to work from home.
Each process has identified priority activities and priority staff to cover these activities. Should backlogs arise plans are in place to address these swiftly as the crisis eases NHS SBS will communicate regularly with all stakeholders to update them on the current situation and will follow Government advice regarding the safety of its employees. NHS Shared Business Services - delivers operational efficiencies for NHS Trusts
NHS SBS has been cited as one of the ways in which shared services can support NHS Trusts to deliver real efficiencies in back office services.
In the Department of Health publication 'the week', issue 82 6-12 February 2009, Trusts are encouraged to consider the services offered by NHS Shared Business Services for delivering efficiencies in back-office functions.
